Albion, NY

The winter of 2002-03 the Kenny's lived in this house on the Watt Apple Farm in Albion, NY.  For much of the winter, they shared this house with eight young Mexican men. Only two of them spoke much English, and most were illegal. Della stayed in part of the barn in this photo. If you look closely you can see her head above the green panel on the fence. The Kenny's spent the winter taking care of the farm and renovating the inside of the house which was built in 1834 out of Chestnut. That winter Albion go 173 inches of snow. One of their jobs was keeping the driveways plowed, which they did on an open tractor.

Bud found this sleigh in pieces in a junk pile. So he rebuilt it and they took Della dashing through the apple orchards. She really seemed to like it. However, she did not like to see Bud and Patricia on their cross-country skies. She would race around her paddock and paw the snow whenever they got on them.

"I think she was jealous." - Patricia

"We dreaded them coming back from Mexico. It was going to be us two middle-age gringo's with eight young Mexican men, in a house with one bathroom and one kitchen. But it turned into a wonderful experience. We got very close to them. I have some great stories for the book." -Bud
